The Odd Fellows Hall, built in the mid-1880s, features a modest cornice on the front and an unusual, twelve-sided turret that was added in the 1950s.
Italian miners from Como, Italy, founded this coal mining camp in 1871. 10 years later the town was the temporary terminus of the South Park & Pacific Railroad before tracks were extended to Gunnison.
A roundhouse, depot, and division repair shops served the railroad, while three hotels, brothels, Chinese laundries, shops, and saloons provided for travelers and the town's six hundred residents.
This is Colorado's last narrow-gauge, cut-stone roundhouse. The 1881 six-bay roundhouse stands on the right as you enter the town.
