Ruby is one of Arizona's best Ghost Towns. It's private property, but usually open to visitors from Thursday to Friday, if you talk to the very friendly caretaker there. There's a small admission that they use to maintain the buildings.

Ruby was founded in the 1870s as "Montana Camp", named after the Montana Mine.

Extracting gold and silver from the ore was complicated and expensive, and the area was heavily defended by Apache indians. All this made most of the mining operations unprofitable.

Today, there is much to see and explore: about 30 buildings including the school with its long-abandoned playground, the jail, homes and many mining structures.
